Jason Finnell

Jason Finnell, a Chattanooga native and all-around modern savage, is a proud father of two, husband to Natalie, and a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt under Shawn Hammonds of the Rickson Gracie lineage. With a passion for martial arts and coaching, Jason brings years of expertise as a former owner of Veritas BJJ, overseeing curriculum, leading Advanced No-Gi classes, and coaching competitors to success. A three-time state wrestling champion at McCallie School and a collegiate wrestler at UTC, Jason pairs his athletic background with academic achievements, including an MBA from Bryan College and a general contractor’s license. When he’s not on the mats, you’ll find him mountain biking or cheering for the Tennessee Vols alongside his family on Signal Mountain, dreaming of their return to glory.

Drew Whitley

Drew, a Florida native and rising brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Jason Finnell and Shawn Hammonds of the Rickson Gracie lineage, has been training for over eight years. A father of two, husband, parole officer, and professional attitude adjuster, Drew focuses on self-defense and leading the kids’ curriculum. With a strong athletic background in collegiate baseball, rugby, and mountain biking, he thrives on the physical and mental challenges of Jiu-Jitsu. Off the mats, Drew enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, and cheering for college football.

Vanxai (Von-Sai) Luangrath, like 97% of Jiu-Jitsu practitioners, balances a full-time job with his passion for training. Fascinated by martial arts and combat sports from a young age, Jiu-Jitsu quickly became his obsession. He thrives on the challenge of learning new techniques, problem-solving in real time, and, most importantly, building lifelong friendships on the mats.

For Vanxai, Jiu-Jitsu isn’t just about the physical aspect—it’s about continuous growth and the ever-evolving journey of the sport. Every roll is an opportunity to learn, refine, and improve, whether it’s mastering a new move or adapting to an unexpected challenge.

Greg Schultz

Greg brings over 30 years of elite wrestling experience to the Sasquatch Grappling Club Wrestling Program in Signal Mountain. 

Since moving to Signal Mountain in 2013, Greg has immersed himself in the local community as a wrestling coach, Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, head coach of the Patriots Middle School Soccer Team, and Trail Life troop master. Married to Valerie and proud father of Nico and Noah, Greg now leads Sasquatch Grappling Wrestling Club, where young athletes learn fundamentals, discipline, and competitive skills from one of the region’s most accomplished wrestling coaches.

Wrestling Highlights & Experience:

  • Started wrestling in 1993 at Concordia HS in Indiana; went undefeated his senior year

  • Earned a wrestling scholarship to Muskegon College (NAIA) in Michigan

  • Named Academic All-American while competing at the collegiate level

  • U.S. Army wrestler; placed 1st at Fort Drum NY 10th Mountain Division and Korea Peninsula Joint Military Post Tournaments

  • Qualified to represent the Army in the World Class Athlete Program (WCAP) and trained at the Olympic Training Center under Greco-Roman coach Shon Lewis

  • Competed in several international Greco-Roman tournaments over multiple years
